Artist Statement:
As an artist, I believe that our education and background knowledge is reflected within our work. I also believe that our understanding of these two tools helps us to achieve our own unique and individual characteristics. We live in an ever-changing world where, as individuals, we must learn to “see” what we are looking at. To explore the many possibilities that what one sees is only the first of many layers that need to be explored.
I believe that fibre is a vehicle to create a visual image that can be carried into the lives of every individual and through their own experiences, we can identify with and enjoy them. I have begun to explore the visual world, “to stop and smell the flowers”, to look at the natural world – prairie landscapes, vibrant skies – as a source for inspiration.
My works are in fabric, hand-painted /dyed, then layered with many different techniques to make each individual piece of cloth an art piece. These pieces of fabric are then cut apart, manipulated and sewn together by either hand or machine to create unified images that are honoring the “essence of” a particular place of study.
