Artist Statement:
“Colour quiets me, colour lets me sing. It is my language in all its affectations of nuance, of syntax, of
pronunciation. My voice is most clear in colour”.
Born and trained in Australia (UNSW), my professional artistic journey in Canada began with an
introduction to studio space in Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District in 2001. Maintaining a consistent
studio practice has allowed me to develop my duel passions of painting and fibre arts with a focus on
colour. Research grants awarded in 2007 and 2008 by the Manitoba Arts Council facilitated detailed exploration of reprographic processes that allowed my painterly signature to be used distinctively in my art quilts. These have exhibited locally and internationally in juried shows since 2004.
Self-mounted studio or gallery shows (2001-present) have provided introductions to a community
whose encouragement and support has fostered my growth and evolution as an artist. The exploration
of place that began with my affiliation with the fibre arts group, “Articulation” in 2015, has necessitated
the conceptual expansion of my studio practice. Moving beyond the boundaries of solo study to discover
new and inspiring ways to create emotive responses to common themes is refreshing. I am excited to continue my creative explorations in colour and beyond: to challenge myself personally,
professionally and technically in the process of art making.
